Officially opened in 1987 and known as the Puerto Deportivo Sotogrande, this stunning marina is the focal point for the strong sailing community here in Sotogrande. Home to hundreds of beautiful boats and exceptional facilities, it also boasts a sailing school to inspire and educate the sailors of the future. Even if you don’t want to take to the water, we’d definitely recommend a visit to the marina. Sotogrande and horses a lifelong love affair

Sotogrande and horses a lifelong love affair

The Sotogrande lifestyle has always been focused around a love for horses; from chukkas on the polo fields to sunrise hacks along the coast, horseriding is a popular activity for both residents and visitors alike. The Sotogrande Equestrian Club, Hipica hosts a charming set of stables and offers equestrian facilities that cater for all abilities from young kids to adults, beginners to the most experienced of riders.

Treks and hacks on horseback

Horse riding is one of the best ways to explore the beautiful countryside around Sotogrande. We’re lucky enough to have the wonderful Finca Alcaidesa just 5 minutes from La Reserva Club where you can ride in a stunning setting. There is more than 1,500 hectares where you can see mountain goats, wild boar and foxes in the wild. Galloping past century old pine trees and forests of native cork trees is an experience you won’t forget.

Endurance Equestrian Experience organizes horse treks in small groups, longer hacks and treks including a picnic lunch and can create a bespoke event for you which focuses on horses and nature. More experienced riders can start in the park and trek all the way to the magical medieval fortress of Castellar, with its incredible views of the Gibraltar Straits. Other longer treks include visiting the charming white village of Jimena de la Frontera, or visiting the Almoraima Convent with its beautiful fountain which takes you back to times gone by.

Mountain biking

Mountain biking

Discover the old Andalucía on meandering bike trips, opening up the land at the bucolic pace it deserves. Mountain biking reveals the unseen side of this varied natural landscape, through mint-covered countryside, along trails that hug the sea. Within Sotogrande’s 1,500 hectares own nature preserve, one can go off-road for rocky climbs and adrenalin-filled descents, along riverbanks and waterfalls edged by limestone and violet candytuft flowers. You can bike to the old village of Castellar de la Frontera, or explores 1,800kms of disused railway lines transformed into traffic-free greenways or ‘vías verdes’. These offer a family-friendly way to explore the hidden Andalucía — one which hasn’t much changed over the last hundred years. Cycle or horse ride the well-loved paths or, for the more adventurous, carve fresh trails through sun-kissed landscape.
