We all know that it’s vital for kids to be active. We all know that learning how to play a sport gives them great life skills and aids their development, as well as getting them moving, but the tricky thing is to know which sport to choose!

We’re spoilt for choice when it comes to children’s sport in Sotogrande, with world class facilities right on our doorstep. We have a huge range of options to choose from including watersports and sailing, team sports such as rugby, polo and football, as well as individual sports like dressage, tennis and golf. As well as the choice of sports for children in Sotogrande, we also have a brilliant climate to enjoy sports throughout the year, so there’s no excuse for your kids to be inside in front of a screen.

The two most popular children’s sports at La Reserva are golf and tennis. Kids have great fun learning the skills and these sports are excellent at developing hand eye coordination, focus and self-sufficiency. Not only that, but their parents know that being confident on the tennis court, or golf course, will set them up for success and opportunities for business and pleasure in their future.

Here’s a run down on what we offer at our sports academies and which kids tend to take to each sport, to help you decide.

Children’s Golf Academy at La Reserva

La Reserva Club’s 18-hole championship golf course is a wonderful place to play a round. We are lucky to have Spanish professional golfer Manuel Piñero in charge of the golf academy of La Reserva. Manuel brings incredible skills and experience of playing on the world’s biggest stages, from the British PGA Championship, to the Ryder Cup and the World Cup of Golf to name a few. The golf academy was set up in 2017, to provide opportunities for golfers of every age and skillset to benefit from the experience, knowledge and talent of Manuel Piñero and his team. In our golf academy in Sotogrande we have a number of Junior programs and classes throughout the year, which fit around school. We also have special intensive courses during the holidays, which make a great introduction to the sport and lets them progress faster. There are also options for more advanced players to have one-to-one tutorials on every aspect of the game.

Children’s Tennis Academy at La Reserva

The La Reserva tennis and raquet centre boasts four clay courts, one of the best tennis academies in the area and five glass walled padel courts.

At our tennis and padel academy in Sotogrande, we have courses to suit all ages and levels and aim to offer the most sophisticated and innovative tennis and padel experience. During term time we have beginner, intermediate and advanced programmes. These classes have a maximum of six children per group to ensure they have personalised attention and make the most out of each class. We have a wide range of time slots during the week and on Saturdays as well, to fit around school and other clubs and activities. Beginner programs offer an introduction to tennis for all ages and the classes last one hour. Intermediate programs are best for children who have grasped the basics and are starting to develop rallying skills, but need help to get to the next level. Advanced programs will suit confident players who want to compete and hone their skills on the court and the classes are 1.5 hours long. To gain further experience and match-play skills, we also run monthly competitions on the last weekend of the month.

During school holidays we have intensive courses for intermediate and advanced players, and fun tennis courses for beginner and intermediate players which include drills to develop technique and tennis related games. Still struggling to decide?

Why not book your kids into our intensive tennis and golf course for the next school holiday? As part of this course they will enjoy an hour of tennis and an hour of golf, twice a week. By the end of the course, they will know which one is their favourite and have a solid grounding in both disciplines.

Feel free to pop into the La Reserva Club House and discuss available options for your kids. We would be delighted to give you a tour of the facilities and answer any questions you may have in terms of which classes and times would suit their age and ability.
