Our region has a rich tradition as a golfing destination, with some of the finest courses in Europe within easy reach. Within the San Roque district, there are nine world-class golf courses, including our very own 18-hole course at La Reserva Club. We’re very proud of what Sotogrande has to offer golfers!
To promote Sotogrande and San Roque as a leading golf destination and enable residents and visitors to make the most of these incredible facilities, San Roque Town Hall has launched the Sotogrande Golf Challenge.
This challenge is a tournament played in pairs, for federated players over 18 years of age. It will run between June and November 2021 and follow the Better Ball Stableford Pairs format. We are proud to be part of this initiative and La Reserva Club will be hosting the first event on the 26th of June.
As part of the Sotogrande Golf Challenge, players will be able to enjoy the challenge of competing at our 18-hole championship course, designed in 2003 by the legendary Cabell B. Robinson. Our course is consistently ranked as one of the top courses in Spain. Golfers on leadingcourses.com have placed it in third place out of all the courses in Spain for the course, the facilities and the maintenance and placed it as the second most hospitable golf club in Spain. It is popular for its wide, sweeping fairways, large greens and gentle but challenging undulations and will be a wonderful place for the first round of the Sotogrande Golf Challenge.
There will be rounds in June, July, August and September at Alcaidesa Golf Heathland Course, The San Roque Club New Course, Almenara Golf, La Cañada Golf and RCG Sotogrande. The best 24 teams will qualify to play in the final at RC Valderrama on the 11th of November.
At the end of the tournament there will be prizes given to the couples finishing first, second and third place. There are also special prizes available for the best senior couples, mixed couples, ladies couples and more.
To take part, players should sign up on the website www.sotograndechallenge.com including their name, licence number and which club they belong to. Members of host clubs pay a one-off fee of 500€ to participate in the tournament, and non-members pay 750€.
The tournament was launched by the San Roque Town Hall on the 14th of May. The Mayor, Tourism and Sports Councillors and representatives of the seven host clubs were present. The Town Hall is passionate about using the Sotogrande Golf Challenge to promote the clubs within the area to players locally, nationally and internationally and welcome new amateur golfers to enjoy our outstanding facilities as COVID restrictions lift.
