Sotogrande is in the Cadiz province, which has been cleared to move into Phase 1 of the de-escalation plan here in Spain. This significantly increases our freedom of movement, the time we can spend out of our homes and allows us to resume outdoor activities and sports such as tennis and golf.  We are very excited to be able to reopen our tennis and golf club, giving our members, guests and their families access to the sports facilities that they have been missing since lockdown began.

Phase 1 rules and regulations

Moving to Phase 1 is an important step out of the strict COVID-19 lockdown, as it allows up to ten people to meet for social gatherings while respecting social distancing measures. Small businesses can open and restaurants, bars and cafes can open their outside terraces at 50% capacity.

Outdoor markets and museums may reopen, with limited capacity and social distancing, and cultural events can return with restrictions on numbers and capacity.

Most exciting for us at La Reserva Club is that non-professional sports are allowed to resume, as long as they are not contact sports and changing room facilities remain closed. So, our tennis club will reopen from the 18th of May. The golf club, multisport pitch and beach volleyball court are all open from the 1st of June.

We are working hard to get everything ready for members to return safely, and we’re really looking forward to welcoming you back!

How are we keeping our members, guests and staff safe?

We are sanitising and deep cleaning all areas, as well as anything which is used by more than one person, such as golf buggies and trolleys and court furniture after each use. There will also be disinfectant gel for players entering and leaving the courts and golf course.

We are removing need for contact with staff and other members as much as possible We will be limiting the time players can be in the club, before and after their game, as well as offering contactless payment options only. We are also restricting the number of players per reservation to avoid crowding.

Our bar area and members lounge remains closed, but we are offering a food and drink service via the Buggy bar, with hot food delivered in a properly sanitized thermal container. In the tennis club we are unable to provide or sell food or drinks, so players are advised to bring their own.

Tennis and golf classes are available, respecting social distancing, and the teacher will wear protective mask and gloves where closer proximity is required.

Please remember not to greet players with a handshake or hug and keep the recommended two meters away from each other wherever possible, following the security measures we have put in place for you. This way we can all get back to enjoying our favourite sports safely.

Why we can’t wait to get back to playing sports!

We all know that playing sports is good for you and with the increase in sedentary lifestyle and screen time that we’ve been forced to adopt, there’s nothing better than getting outside into the fresh air and moving that body!!

Exercise helps control your weight, improves your mood, boosts energy and improves your sleep, not to mention helping to combat health conditions and diseases. Being outside is also a great way to reduce stress, particularly in a beautiful natural setting such as a golf course. It can reduce blood pressure, lower heart rate, decrease cortisol levels and of course give us a boost of vitamin D from the sun.

Golf has been shown to improve mental well-being by keeping the mind alert and allowing interaction with others, without requiring close contact. It reduces stress and anxiety and offers a healthy challenge for the body and mind. It is also great for our health, as a 18-hole round will see you walking 5-6 miles and the golf swing is a great full-body workout. When we start to improve our golf, we’ll also tend to want to improve our fitness to maximise our success on the course and there are some great routines to give both our fitness and skills a boost. Check out our one week golf fitness programme with Belen Mozo.

Tennis and padel provides both aerobic and anaerobic training, as there can be hard fought for points which work on our endurance, as well as the fast and explosive movements. This gives us an interval training workout which is great for both heart and lungs. It develops strong bones and muscles, improves coordination and is a great way to burn calories while toning your body.

There’s not long to wait until we can welcome you to the club once more. You can book your courts and tee times online.

We look forward to seeing you very soon!
